PTC resettable fuse, or PTC (positive temperature coefficient) resettable fuse, is a self-resetting thermal fuse device. It is used to provide automatic thermal protection for circuits, and its design principle is similar to that of a thermal fuse, but it is able to "reset" itself after heating and cooling cycles.Typically, PTC resettable fuse is made up of two parts: a metal strip and a polymeric element. The metal strip is the current path, while the polymeric element is the temperature sensitive material. When the current is too high, the polymeric element will begin to heat up, expanding the metal strip and causing an increase in the resistance, thus slowing the current. The polymeric element can "reset" itself after it cools down, reverting back to its contracted form and allowing the current to flow at its regular rate.
