Through Hole Resistors
Through-hole resistors, also known as leaded resistors, are the oldest form of resistor and are still being used today. They have been utilized for decades in virtually every circuit and are the most consistent and reliable types of resistors. Lead Resistors are typically made from metal or ceramic and are designed to have a hollow cylindrical body where the two terminals or leads extend from both ends. The resistor is placed into the board with its leads soldered to the circuit which allows it to remain in place.

The most common power rating of the 1206 size is 0.125W (125mW) and is normally used in low-power circuits, whereas the higher-powered 0.5W (500mW) version tends to be reserved for use in high power amplifiers.
Surface mount resistors are ideal for densely populated boards and have many advantages compared to traditional through-hole mounting. The leadless design allows a more compact assembly and it does not have to rely on the strength of the solder joints, which should remain intact throughout shock and vibration. Additionally, the already established high resistance to thermal shock makes it suitable for use in thermally demanding applications.
The RN55C2152BRSL has a nominal resistance of 1.5KΩ and a power rating of 0.125W, but other values and variations of this resistor are available including higher power variance, as well as differing tolerances and temperature coefficients. The resistor is also more cost effective than through-hole style resistors, due to its more compact design and mass-production capabilities.
