ROV05-330K-S-2 is a type of TVS - Varistors, MOVs. It is a highly effective transient overvoltage protective component of a high energy low mass, and it is designed for transient overvoltage protection and handling of large power noise and EMI interference.

Application Field

The ROV05-330K-S-2 component has mainly three wide applications – it is mainly used in automotive electronics, LED lighting and power supplies and switching power supplies. Working Principle

Basically, ROV05-330K-S-2 component works as a voltage dependent resistor. It comprises a zinc oxide element along the surface of the semiconductor material. As soon as the voltage across the device exceeds a certain limit, the device conducts current. The current passes through the zinc oxide element and hence produces localized heat. On thermal breakdown, the current reduces automatically and the element returns to its high impedance state. This voltage dependent resistance is thus is commonly termed as a varistor.

The ROV05-330K-S-2 components are based on varistor material which is made with grains of different sizes. These grains are distributed across the entire semiconductor element. This ensures that when the voltage amount increases, the grains tend to break down. The breakdown voltage of the component depends on the grain size and the shape of the zinc oxide material.

The device operates in an avalanche mode of operation. In this mode, the device begins to non-linearly conduct current immediately when the applied voltage across the terminals of the device exceeds the reverse breakdown voltage. This current flow continues until the voltage drops below the breakdown voltage. It also helps in the protection of power rectification circuits from these sudden voltage spikes.
