The ROV14H331K-S is a Type 2 elements of TVS – Varistors, MOVs (Transient Voltage Suppressor – Varistor, Metal Oxide Varistor). It is a bidirectional, high voltage, surface mount, unidirectional device designed for protecting sensitive electronics against transients, such as performance, electrical surges and lightning strikes. This devices is rated a maximum standby voltage of 31V, a peak pulse current 1,900A, clamping voltage of 48V and a surge current rating of 3.3A for a single line of protection. The ROV14H331K-S is mainly applied in the area of mobile phone, computer, network application, broadband peripherals, automotive and home security applications. In the area of mobiles devices, this device is used to prevent damage from electrostatic discharge (ESD) events by quickly absorbing the discharge energy and then dissipating it into the environment. In computer and network applications, this device protects against high-energy transient surges from lines, such as lightning and other high-energy electrical disturbances. This device is also used in automotive and home security applications to protect against surges and transients that might occur during power-outage events.The basic working principle of the ROV14H331K-S is based on the Zener diode breakdown mechanism. It is designed to absorb and dissipate a large amount of transient energy, such as lightning strikes and other electrical disturbances. When the trigger voltage is exceeded, the ROV14H331K-S conducts current in the reverse direction. This conducts the excess energy away from the equipment, which is then dissipated harmlessly into the environment.When a transient occurs, the ROV14H331K-S will immediately absorb its energy and dissipate it into the environment. However, it needs to have a sufficient current returning path. This current returning path is the PCB trace that is connected from the board to the ground connection of the device.
