DC-DC converters provide a simple and efficient way to convert a direct current (DC) input voltage to a different voltage required by the electronic device that will use the output. The RP10-243.3SE/N/M1-HC is a high current, 200~400V DC DC converter series manufactured by TDK-Lambda. This series is designed to provide an output current from 1A up to 23A, and offers several solutions for industrial and battery powered applications.The RP10-243.3SE/N/M1-HC series is available in various models from 25W to 450W, with input voltage up to 440V and an output frequency range from 600kHz to 1MHz. It is designed to be highly reliable and provides significant advantages, such as overcurrent, overtemperature, short-circuit and overload protection. Additionally, it has an integrated remote sense function and allows external parallel operation in order to increase the output current.The main application fields for the RP10-243.3SE/N/M1-HC series are industrial applications such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), battery powered applications, semiconductor processes, laboratory instruments, as well as LED lighting systems. Since it is designed to step up and step down the output voltage with a high efficiency, it suits for applications where a stable DC voltage is required, no matter if the input voltage is higher or lower than the output.The working principle of the RP10-243.3SE/N/M1-HC series is based on a buck-boost DC–DC converter topology, using a transformer with a center tap. This topology allows controlling both the current and voltage delivered to the load independently. It is operated in discontinuous mode, where the power switches turn ON and OFF periodically. When switches are activated, current will be stored in the transformer primary, and the current stored in the primary will flow through the transformer secondary to the load.The circuit diagram of the RP10-243.3SE/N/M1-HC series shows the main elements necessary for the DC–DC converter to operate: a power switch, a current sense resistor (RL), a control integrated circuit (IC) and output capacitors (COUT). The power switch is triggered by the control IC according to the voltage and current measured by the RL and the feedback connection, in order to provide a regulated output voltage. The output capacitors also play a key role in the converter, since they are used to filter undesired ripple and smoothing the output voltage.One of the advantages of the RP10-243.3SE/N/M1-HC series is its high efficiency across a wide range of load levels. It can reach efficiencies up to 96% with light load operation, and up to 92% with full load operation.
