Through Hole Resistors (THR) or THR (Thru-Hole) are electronic components widely used in consumer electronics and industrial equipment. THR have been in use since the turn of the century and are still common components in products such as phones, PC\'s, and car audio systems. THR are known for their simplicity, reliability, and relatively low cost.

The most common type of THR is the Wire-Wound TIM resistor, also known as the RSS7W33KJ series. These consist of a thin wire wound around a ceramic base material. The wire is usually made of Metal, typically Aluminum. The winding diameter and number of turns, completely dependent on the desired resistance, result in an adjustable product.

These resistors are used in a variety of applications. Consumer audio systems, industrial circuit board repairs, and DIY projects are just a few applications that require this type of component. The general application is where high-voltage resistance is required. It is also possible to use the resistors in low-power applications, but typically the resistance required for such tasks is too low to produce a good result.

The working principle is fairly straightforward. As a voltage source is applied to the end of the resistor, current is passed through the winding that opposes the flow of electrons. The winding creates a magnetic field around the resistor, which orients the flow of electrons in the desired direction. This resistance creates heat, as well as a measure of voltage drop, which is proportional to the applied current. The amount of voltage drop is dependent on the type and size of resistor, as well as the amount of current being applied.

THR resistors offer a robust product that has been in use for many years. With their ability to withstand higher voltages and current than other types of resistors, they are ideal for most applications. They may not be as shiny or as bright as other types of resistors, but their reliability and cost effectiveness often make them the preferred choice in many applications.
