RT4805BWSC is a device belonging to the family of DC-DC Switching Regulators and it is integrated into the family of voltage regulators in the PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuits). It is commonly used for the applications in which stepping down the voltage is required to match the voltage supplied to the load. This circuit works on the principle of Pulse Width Modulation. Presently, According to the datasheet, it can go as low as 0.5V, and it can handle output voltages ranging from 1.5V to 24V. With the output current up to 2A and the operating temperature between -40 to 85 degree Celsius.

The RT4805BWSC has a wide input voltage range, which starts from 2V to 28V, making it a highly efficient voltage regulator. This voltage regulator can be used in applications like switching power supplies, battery chargers, DC-DC converters and other analog circuits. Generally, for achieving such a low voltage output, a FET (Field Effect Transistor) or even a MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) is used as switching element, which is powered by the integrated high-side MOSFET driver and controlled by a PWM Controller.

Operation of the RT4805BWSC consists of two steps, first being the regulate step and second being the pulse width modulation step. In the regulate step, the voltage regulator adjusts its output voltage by using a feedback loop. The loop contains a control circuit, an error amplifier integrated in the control circuit, and an outer feedback system to set the output voltage to a predetermined level. If the output voltage becomes higher, the error amplifier increases the current through the PWM OSC till it reaches the maximum. If the output voltage becomes lower, the error amplifier reduces the current till it reaches minimum. This means that by controlling the output voltage, the DC-DC converter can be used as either a buck converter or a boost converter.

In the Pulse Width Modulation step, the control circuit is connected to the PWM OSC, which receives the controller\'s output voltage and adjusts the switch ON and OFF times in order to regulate the output voltage. The PWM oscillator outputs high pulse when the error amplifier produces high output and low pulse when the error amplifier produces low output. This means that the PWM OSC reduces the amount of current flowing through the switching element when the output voltage reaches its lower limit and increases the amount of current flowing through the switching element when the output voltage reaches its upper limit.

The RT4805BWSC includes an adjustable soft-start circuitry, which quickly brings the converter up to the predetermined operating voltage without current spikes. The soft-start circuitry is used to reduce the inrush current during startup and protecting the power supply from voltage transient. Additionally, the device has an adjustable frequency, which reduces the switching noise in the DC-DC converter and improves the efficiency.

The RT4805BWSC is also equipped with overcurrent protection, undervoltage protection and thermal shutdown protection. This provides protection against excessive current and voltage that could potentially damage the load. It also guarantees a safe shutdown of the out circuit if it goes beyond the specified temperature or if any over voltage or over current condition occurs in the output circuit.
