Working Principle

The RT8555WSC LED driver IC is based on current-mode concept; it senses the LED load current at the source output pin. The sensed current information is feedback to the control circuit and compared with a reference voltage. The reference voltage (VREF) adjusts the duty cycle of the driving signal to minimize the current sense error. As the load current changes, the current sense voltage also changes and the duty cycle adjusts accordingly to maintain a regulated current to the LED load. The regulated current is constant and known as the current regulation point.

The RT8555WSC LED driver IC also incorporates a hysteresis feedback system to reduce switching noise. The hysteresis is typically set by the system designer to optimize the LED efficiency, flicker and noise.
