Working Principle

RT9011-JGGQW consists of pass element, bandgap reference, error amplifier, current Source and output transistor. This linear voltage regulator provides an adjustable output voltage and precise voltage accuracy with its external resistor. As shown in the below diagram, the device works by sensing the output voltage and comparing the output voltage to an internal reference voltage. The error amplifier produces an output error voltage VEA based on this difference and controls the gate of the pass PMOS.

The gate voltage of the pass PMOS affects the drain current passing through the device, which in turn regulates the output voltage via the internal power transistor. If a load is applied to the output, the output voltage decreases and the sense voltage consequently drops. To compensate for this change, the gate voltage of the pass MOS increases, resulting in an increase of output voltage. This feedback loop continues until the output voltage matches the internal reference voltage or the user-set voltage.
