In bypass mode, the filter is essentially bypassed meaning no filtering takes place. In filtering mode, the first section of the filter acts as a low pass filter to reduce the high frequency noise. When the surge protection mode is enabled, the varistor provides protection from power spikes and voltage surges.

This filter also has several operating features such as an operating temperature range of -20°C to +60°C, a range of input voltages from 85V AC to 264V AC, and a surge protection rating of 1500W/10000V. The filter has an inrush current capability of up to 30A and is also UL listed.
