The RV4NaysJ500A is a rotary potentiometer, rheostat, is a 3-terminal single-turn adjustable resistor device.In contrast to regular resistors, the resistance of this type of device changes only a small amount when adjusted. As a rotary potentiometer, rheostat, the RV4NaysJ500A is constructed with a round shaft which serves as its control input, and the resistance varies as the shaft is turned. This type of potentiometer, rheostat, is most often used in analog circuits as an adjustable voltage divider or as the core of a voltage controlled impedance, but can also be used in digital circuits as a variable voltage divider or as a variable threshold voltage.
One potential use for the device, due to its precise control input and variable range, is to adjust frequency, amplitude, or distortion. This makes the RV4NaysJ500A one of the most versatile universal potentiometer, rheostat, devices available.
The RV4NaysJ500A is based on the standard designs of a three terminal rotary potentiometer. A simple three terminal potentiometer has a wiper terminal and two end terminals. The wiper terminal is connected to a resistive element, either a wiper brush, or a conductive plastic track, which is located in the gap between the two end terminals.When the slotted end of the variable resistor is rotated, the wiper brush slides along the resistive element, thus varying the resistance between the two end terminals.
However, the RV4NaysJ500A improves on this basic design by adding two additional terminals. This allows for greater control of the resistive element, as well as for greater precision in adjusting the resistance. Specifically, the two extra terminals provide a constant current, in order to adjust the resistance of the resistive element and minimize any contact resistance, as well as a control voltage, which allows for the device to be adjusted at any range of voltage.
The working principle of the RV4NaysJ500A is based on the same principle of a three terminal potentiometer. An adjustable voltage divider is created when the variable resistor is connected to the two end terminals and the wiper terminal is connected to the voltmeter. When the ativation movement is applied, the tap on the wiper brushes slides along the resistive track, varying the resistance between the two end terminals. This causes the voltage on the wiper terminal to change, which in turn changes the output voltage.
One potential application for the RV4NaysJ500A is as a linear-voltage controlled potentiometer. This type of potentiometer can be used to accurately adjust the output voltage of a linear regulator or a DC-DC converter, as the input voltage varies from zero to the maximum voltage.
