PTC resettable fuses, or positive temperature coefficient resettable fuses, are self-resetting polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) electrical fuses used in electronic circuits with over-current protection. They are designed to detect and protect against over-current conditions and reset themselves when current returns to an acceptable level. RXEF185-2 is one type of PTC resettable fuses, it’s suitable for the current over-load protection of mobile phone charging circuits.RXEF185-2 from Rui Tai are designed for high current charging protection to regulate charging current and reduce the risk of battery and fire caused by over-voltage, over-temperature and short-circuit of mobile phone charging adapter. It boasts high trip characteristics, rapid reaction ability, low power temperature drift, wide operating temperature range and secure operation in abnormal conditions.RXEF185-2 is constructed predominantly of a polymeric element layer, with a base metal layer. When voltage is applied to the input node, the device behaves like a resistor. Squeezing the self-resetting element and/or current passing through the device will cause the resistance to increase rapidly. Given enough current through the device, the increased resistance may become quite high (>100Kohms). At this point the power pass through the device dies off, effectively blocking current from passing further downstream, almost like a fuse.The working principle of this device is relatively simple. The device is basically a semi-conductor with a specific thermal characteristics. When current is supplied to the device, the power output is directly proportional to the current flow. When a certain current level is reached, the device temperature starts to rise very quickly due to its positive thermal coefficient. This rise in temperature eventually causes the resistance of the device to greatly increase and cuts off the current flow.RXEF185-2 PTC Resettable Fuse has a wide range of applications in the protection of power adapters, power supplies, portable devices, chargers, electric motors, automotive systems, and other consumer electronic products.In summary, RXEF185-2 PTC Resettable Fuse is an excellent choice for the protection of mobile phone, consumer electronics, and power supplies from the effects of over-current conditions.
