It is a versatile, single-channel, low-dropout (LDO) regulator, which accepts an input voltage as high as 20V and is capable of providing an output of up to 3.3V.

The S-1335D10-N4T1U3 is designed for a range of applications, including embedded control, datacom, and “heavy” portable products. It offers high-accuracy, hi-reliability and protection features that make it suitable for use in a wide range of demanding applications. Features include a dynamic Voltage Range (DVR) of up to 15V, line/load regulation of 0.25%/0.5%, guaranteed reverse battery protection, short-circuit protection and thermal protection.

In operation, the regulator runs in either linear or switching mode (during start-up), depending on the output current demanded. In linear operation, the input voltage (VIN) is regulated down to the required output voltage (VOUT) through a series of resistors and a single power FET, creating a voltage drop across the FET. As the VOUT is increased, the FET is switched off and linear operation is suspended until the load is reduced. The switching power FET also acts as a brief Pulse width modulation (PWM) regulator, thus increasing the effective voltage regulation when the load current is high.
