Magnetic sensors and switches (solid state) are used as motion sensors, position sensors, stationary sensors, and presence detectors in a variety of applications. The S-5716ANDL0-I4T1U, in particular, is an advanced magnetic hall-effect switch with digital output (low impedance) and unipolar programmable sensitivity. This sensor is designed to detect the presence or absence of magnetic fields generated by permanent magnets or electromagnets with a uniform field configuration.
Applications of the S-5716ANDL0-I4T1U magnetic sensor/switch, depending on the customer requirements, range from home automation, factory automation, safety systems, to motor control systems. The key feature of the S-5716ANDL0-I4T1U magnetic sensor/switch is its high sensitivity, which provides detection of a low field strength as low as 0.3 Gauss. This enables it to detect even low magnetic flux densities, such as those generated by permanent magnets. The sensor/switch is equipped with two built-in Programmable Digital Output lines, one of which is dedicated to ‘Open’ output to indicate the presence of a magnetic field, and the other is dedicated to ‘Closed’ output to indicate the absence of a field. Depending on the external magnetic field strength and each output line’s programmable sensitivity, both outputs can be used in different configurations.
The S-5716ANDL0-I4T1U magnetic sensor/switch utilizes a reverse-biased Hall-effect junction and is connected to the power source and the output lines using a transistor biasing circuit and buffers. The transistor bias current is used as the return path for the hall effect voltage. The output lines are synchronized with the biasing circuit in order to render reliable and accurate results. During normal operation, the magnetically-sensitive Hall-effect junction will produce a voltage proportional to the input flux intensity. When the input flux intensity is below the programmed threshold value, the output lines switch to a high-state voltage and when the input flux intensity exceeds the predetermined threshold, the output lines are switched to a low-state voltage.
