Working Principle
S-5731NNL2-M3T2U magnetic sensors detect the presence of a magnetic field. They use an operational principle based on the Hall effect principle, which uses an electrically conductive semiconductor in order to detect changes in magnetic fields. When no magnetic field is present, the semiconductor stays in its quiescent state. But when a magnetic field is present, electrons in the semiconductor move in different directions due to the force. This results in a voltage potential, which can then be detected when the magnitude of the magnetic field exceeds the switching threshold.
In the S-5731NNL2-M3T2U sensor, a magnetoresistive element is placed between two electrodes on a semiconductor. This design increases the sensitivity of the device. When a magnet is present, its magnetic field changes the Hall voltage gradient depending on its distance and orientation. As a result, the output voltage is output.
The S-5731NNL2-M3T2U magnetic sensors are designed to be able to provide two outputs – a normally open (NO) output, and a normally closed (NC) output. On a NO output, if the magnetic field exceeds the switch threshold, the switch will close and the output will be high; if the magnetic field does not exceed the switch threshold, the switch will remain open and the output will be low. On an NC output, the exact opposite is true – if the magnetic field exceeds the switch threshold, the switch will remain open and the output will be low; if the magnetic field does not exceed the switch threshold, the switch will close and the output will be high. This design provides versatile, digital output signals which can be used in various control and automation applications.
