S-817B14AY-Z2-U is a step-up current mode controller with a wide range of applications, mainly used to control step-up DC-DC converters for various applications, such as LED driver for street lighting, LED panel lighting, LED tube lighting, LED bulb illumination, LED spot lighting and outdoor lighting. It is categorized as PMIC – Voltage Regulators – Linear.

The S-817B14AY-Z2-U has an operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C and uses a two-phase buck topology. It is featured with low standby current, 0.65Ven low start-up voltage, complete protection such as over-current/temperature protection, over-voltage protection and under-voltage lockout. The MIC28802A adopts Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) technology, which allows efficient and accurate regulation of the output voltage. Its adjustable output voltage is from 0.8V to 22V, while the adjustable peak current value is 3.2A.

The S-817B14AY-Z2-U works on a typical working principle of switching mode power supply. It is composed of a power switch, an energy storage element (inductor or capacitor), a rectifier, and control circuitry. When the switch is closed, the energy is stored in the energy storage element, and when the switch is opened, the energy is released to the output. Its input range from 5V to 30V covers a broad range of applications and is suitable for operating from a single cell Li-Ion battery.
