S-8340B00AFT-T2-G, referred to as “S-8340”, is a power management device of high performance and low cost specifically designed for DC/DC switch controller applications, and is widely used in PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Controllers. This device integrates a variety of high performance control blocks, such as Primary Side Controllers, Secondary Side MOSFET Controllers, Current Limit Controllers and Open Loop Controllers, to provide an efficient and reliable power supply solution. The PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Controllers relies on S-8340 to drive and close the power MOSFETs of primary side and secondary side.

S-8340 has a wide input voltage because the wide range of the input voltage control module is widely used for AC/DC and DC/DC applications and the operating temperature is from -40℃ to +125℃. It also uses the integrated current primary side controller (PSC) to adjust the duty cycle of the power MOSFET switch according to the feedback voltage of the secondary side, and also provides an over voltage protection to prevent the output voltage from exceeding the predetermined voltage.

The standard controllers of S-8340 use a low output ripple control technology that is suitable for high efficiency DC/DC applications. Its control output is used to control the current of the power MOSFET and the voltage sense amplifier is used to sense the voltage of the output. Under voltage lockout and over temperature protection are also provided to shut down the switch and protect the system from damage.

In addition, the S-8340 also provides a wide range of output protection functions, including overcurrent protection, short circuit protection and overvoltage protection, which can effectively prevent unnecessary damage caused by insufficient input power or unstable output power. This device also has a low power consumption which provides an efficient power supply solution in terms of both cost and energy-saving.

The working principle of S-8340 is to constantly regulate the output voltage by adjusting the duty cycle of the power MOSFET switch on the primary side according to the input voltage, the output voltage and the feedback voltage of the secondary side. When the output voltage is close to the set output voltage, the controller will reduce the duty cycle of the power MOSFET switch, reducing the input power and thus reducing the power consumption. When the output voltage is far away from the set voltage, the controller will increase the duty cycle of the power MOSFET switch, increasing the input power and thus improving the output efficiency.
