S-8352D33MC-K8ST2G is a part of a series of DC-DC switching controllers from PMIC-Voltage Regulators series. This controller was created to provide adjustable sub-GHz precision-timed pulses at a switching frequency of up to 8 MHz.
This device can be used for up to two converters in applications that includes: converters for LCD televisions, set-top boxes, monitors and other equipment that use single and dual output voltage conversion. It is also suitable for current mode and voltage mode step-down (buck) and step-up (boost) applications. This makes it well-suited to an array of high-frequency power supplies ranging from 1W to 5W.
The S-8352D33MC-K8ST2G Controller provides a fully-monitored synchronous switching supply designed to reduce external components and provide a high degree of protection including under-voltage lockout (UVLO) on both input and output. Also, a wide temperature range of -40°C to +125°C allows the device to operate in a broad environment.
S-8352D33MC-K8ST2G automatically adapts to step-up, step-down, continuous, and diode-clamp topologies and provides up to 5A load current with a minimum efficiency of 88% for all four topologies.
S-8352D33MC-K8ST2G features enhanced operation with an internal sequencer and integrated per-channel FET drivers, adjustable external RSENSE and RDS(ON) sensing (monitored internally) independent run and sleep management, Over Temperature protection, and thermal protection.
The device’s internal circuitry works within the predefined parameters to provide the optimal combination of performance, efficiency, and cost. Its fixed frequency, current mode switching architecture with constant on-time pulse control offers excellent transient response and fast overshoot compensation. This feature also minimizes the number of external components, making it cost effective.
With a current mode of operation, the controller is also able to provide input power savings and increased power accuracy as it can adapt to changing dynamic loads. To minimize change in frequency, the device can be synchronized via an external master clock to reduce the effects of frequency noise.
In addition to its built-in features, S-8352D33MC-K8ST2G also includes optional output voltage sequencing, offer a choice of cycle-by-cycle or hiccup mode current limiting, voltage pre-biasing, fast wake up time and sleep, and soft-start.
The output current can be programmed with external sensing resistor and has ON/OFF control over the enable pin with additional virtual selection of soft-start. Output voltage sequencing is via an internal sequencer that allows an external pin input to sequence the output voltage of the two channels.
The device’s on/off control is provided by the enable pin which has programmable retention states when enabled and disabled. The device also has a protection feature for under-voltage lockout (UVLO) for both the input and output.
