Working Principle

The S-8355Q28MC-OWNT2U is an adjustable low noise current mode control step-down converter. Its unique operating principle combines the benefits of current mode control with an adjustable power stage design.

It operates in switching transition period with the precision cycle-by-cycle peak current limit (IPCM), and the average current flow through the main switch is regulated by the LOOPIN voltage. When the ON-time goes too long with decreasing input supply, the current mode control circuit will start to regulate the pulse width by reducing the slope of the current ramp signal, resulting in a drop of output voltage.

The S-8355Q28MC-OWNT2U employs a two-loop architecture which consists of a primary loop for voltage regulation and a secondary loop for loop compensation. The primary loop regulates the output voltage, while the secondary loop maximizes the dynamic performance by compensating the changes in the transfer function of the control to output path.

The S-8355Q28MC-OWNT2U is able to maintain stable voltage across output capacitors, reducing the need for large output capacitance and ensuring fast transient response.
