The S-8356Q18MC-OYDT2U is a high-efficiency, fixed frequency, triple-output, step-down DC-DC switching controller. This topology can be used to provide low electrical noise, low output voltage ripple and improved dynamic response when compared to other conventional buck-mode converters. The S-8356Q18MC-OYDT2U has the ability to work with both regulated and unregulated external sources, and it utilizes switching frequency breaking to reduce idling current and dynamic losses.

Working Principle

The device employs a two-phase, triple-output switching regulator. Each output is separately controlled, allowing the current and voltage of all three outputs to be independently optimized. The device is driven by an externally generated control signal, such as from a PWM signal generator. The voltage regulator, which is located inside the device, is sensitive to changes in output voltage and adjusts its operation accordingly.

When the output voltage on any of the three outputs drops below the desired level, the device senses this and temporarily increases the duty cycle of that output, thus increasing the voltage. Since the device works on a two-phase switching principle, the voltage also increases on both of the other outputs and the device is capable of supplying up to 1A per output.

The device is capable of operating with a wide input voltage range (2.3V to 5.5V) and a switching frequency up to 2.2 MHz. An external resistor is required to select the desired switching frequency and the device is protected against under-voltage and over-current conditions.
