INTRODUCTION

The S-8358H33MC-NUST2U is a high performance synchronous DC/DC switching controller designed to produce output voltages in the range of 0.6V to 5V. It is ideal for applications such as consumer and industrial power supplies, PoE, compact modules and ASIC onboard power stage.

APPLICATION FIELD

The S-8358H33MC-NUST2U is a dual-output synchronous buck switching regulator with integrated high-side N-channel MOSFET. This controller provides complete synchronous rectification for both outputs, resulting in improved efficiency over traditional dual-output regulators. The controller features an adjustable power saving mode (PSM) for low load conditions and to provide improved efficiency and part-to-part adjustments. The controller provides good output voltage accuracy and line regulation and it is designed to work with step-up DC/DC converters. An adjustable soft-start function is provided to improve inrush current protection. The controller is designed to be compatible with single-ended or differential remote sensing, depending on the application.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

The S-8358H33MC-NUST2U synchronous DC/DC switching controller works in conjunction with one or two external low-side MOSFETs and two external inductors to form two nested synchronous buck converters. During operation, the controller adjusts the switching frequency and duty cycle of the external MOSFETs to maintain the desired output voltage. The master output voltage is controlled by an external compensation network which sets the output voltage set-point.

The controller has an adjustable power saving mode (PSM) and is designed to operate in load-independent mode. In this mode, the switching frequency is automatically adjusted based on the actual load and to reduce power consumption at light-load conditions. This mode is enabled by setting a predetermined PSM voltage set-point. The controller operates at a much lower frequency during the PSM operation in comparison to the normal operating frequency. The controller also provides an adjustable soft-start function which helps to reduce inrush current during start-up.

The controller also supports input OVP, output OVP and over-temperature protections which ensure safe operation. The controller is designed to be used with a wide range of input and output voltages and can interface with single-ended or differential remote sensing.
