Single (S1A) diode rectifiers are used as power switch electronics and direct current (DC) motor speed controls. They are commonly used in industrial motor control applications and high power battery chargers. These devices are designed to switch from one state to another with very little delay, providing a reliable and fast means of power control.
A single S1A diode rectifier is composed of two diodes connected in series between two terminals. When two particular terminals are positive, the diodes are forwarding biased and electrons flow readily through the diodes. When the other two terminals are negative, the diodes are reverse biased and the electrons are blocked by the diodes and no current can flow. This form of power control can be very beneficial in both motor control applications and high power battery chargers.
