Optoisolators are electronic components that provide optical isolation of two circuits from each other. A Triac is a three-electrode alternating current (AC) switch in which current-controlled current and voltage-controlled current are both produced. It is a versatile device that can be used for switching, temperature control, and dimming. An SCR, or silicon controlled rectifier, is a four-layer diode that is triggered when a current is applied to the Gate terminal. It is a four layer device with two P-type and two N-type channels. When connected to the output of an Optoisolator-Triac, the SCR can be used to control AC devices.

This type of Optoisolator has an LED (light emitting diode) for the transmitter circuit and a photo-transistor for the receiver circuit.

The working principle of S2S3Y is quite simple. The LED in the transmitter section lights up when a voltage is applied to the Triac. This light is then detected by the photo-transistor in the receiver section, and a corresponding voltage is applied to the SCR. This process creates a controlled current in the SCR circuit, which can then be used to control an AC device.

Optoisolators are a reliable and efficient way to maintain electrical isolation between two circuits.
