The SC1102CSTRT is an integrated DC/DC Buck controller designed for synchronous or nonsynchronous switches. This DC/DC Buck controller is designed to operate from a 6V to 32V input, ranging from 0.9V to 28V Vout and consuming only 175mA under nominal load conditions. It features a true single-phase, discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) synchronous buck controller that enables simpler design and efficient operation without the need for additional synchronous FETs. The SC1102CSTRT also provides protection against over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature, and current-limit conditions.

The SC1102CSTRT integrates gate drivers that operate up to 3A gate current, a voltage regulator, and anEnable/Shutdown input, to produce a complete single-phase synchronous DC/DC Buck regulator. It accepts a programmable reference voltage input range of 0.62V to 2.4V. The Buck controller commands the Gate current of the upper and lower synchronous Switch FETs utilizing the 3A gate drive. It also contains adjustable over-current protection, adjustable external Soft-Start, a wide input voltage range, programmable rising and sinking output voltage margins, a PGOOD indicator. The SC1102CSTRT is designed to meet the various end application requirements, from an individual point of regulation to distributed systems with multiple point of regulation.

It utilises these signals to determine the duty cycle of each of the gate drivers.

The duty cycle is set to a level that maintains the desired output voltage. To get it, the Buck controller drives the upper and lower switches ON and OFF at predetermined switching frequency. In ON time, the input voltage is transferred to the output voltage with the help of a synchronous rectifier such as FETs, consuming less power from the input source. During OFF time, the inductor is set to a discharging process, transferring the energy stored in its magnetic field to the output in the form of output voltage. This process continues, making a regulated output voltage and maintaining the input-output power ratio.
