Working Principle

An inductor is an electrical component which resists changes in current, and which stores electrical energy in a magnetic field. When an alternating current is applied to the inductor, its magnetic field is charged, creating an electrical impedance. This induces a back EMF, which opposes changes in the current.

When high frequency alternating currents are applied, the inductor forms a low pass filter. This effectively acts to reduce noise and interference in circuits which would otherwise be affected by electrical noise or interference. By adjusting the current, the inductor can also act as an inductance limiter.
