Working Principle of SCWN03E-05

The SCWN03E-05 DC-DC converter works on a simple principle, that is converting one voltage to another. It works like an electric transformer which transforms voltage from low voltage to high voltage and then step down to low voltage. It basically works on the Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction, which states that when a varying voltage is applied to a primary winding of a transformer, a corresponding varying voltage is induced in the secondary windings. This law can be used to make a DC-DC converter, of which the SCWN03E-05 is one. Here, the varying voltages are not induced in the second winding instead, their output is regulated with the help of a high speed switch-mode (switching) supply. This switching supply is also embedded with various other features that help in voltage stability, EMI management and power factor correction.

In the SCWN03E-05 converter, a switching supply works with a microprocessor whose task is to monitor and adjust the output voltage, based on the input voltage. The switching supply works by switching between high and low voltage, depending on the input. The high voltage will turn on the supply and the low voltage will turn it off. This is done with the help of the MOSFET (Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor). The MOSFET switches on when an extremely low voltage is applied, which opens the gate of the MOSFET and lets the current flow through the circuit.
