Optical Sensors are widely used in industrial processes and applications to reliably detect and measure objects, events, and other changes in the environment. Photointerrupters, or photodiode-based slot type sensors, are among the most successful types of optical sensors. Typical applications include measuring robot speed and automation equipment control, monitoring conveyor belt operations, detecting presence and absence of objects on production lines, and more. The SD3-A1 is a logic output photodiode-based slot type sensor designed specifically to meet these requirements.

The SD3-A1 photointerrupter is a small and compact slot type sensor based on the four quadrants CDS cell photodiode. With its high operating temperature tolerance and fast response time, it can be used in various applications where reliable and accurate detection is needed.

The SD3-A1 offers two types of detection modes: logic output (LO) type and open drain output (OD) type. The logic output type can detect targets from any direction and is suitable for a wide variety of applications. The open drain type is more suitable for applications such as motor speed monitoring where high speed response is more important than the direction of detection.

When the object interrupts the beam of light, the voltage output from the photodiode reduces and generates a signal. This signal is then sent to the logic circuit. The logic circuit processes this signal and outputs the appropriate logic level, typically 0 (low) or 1 (high).
