SAW filters are ubiquitous components in many modern communication systems. As such, they are designed to serve as essential components in many telecommunication processes. The most widely used type of SAW filter is the SF14-1582M5UUD2. This filter is part of a product line of Sawtek Xymplex series and is designed for a number of applications.

The working principle of the SF14-1582M5UUD2 family of SAW filters is based on the inability of sound waves to penetrate metal sheets. The filter consists of two metal plates with interleaved comb electrodes. The comb electrodes are made from a ferroelectric material. An incoming signal is parallel-coupled to the comb electrodes and is partially transmitted to another port while being partially reflected back to the input port.

Due to the difference in the number of teeth, one set of frequencies will be passed, while others will be reflected.
