Optical sensors are devices that are able to detect or measure the presence or intensity of light in an environment. This change helps the sensor to send an output signal to turn on the circuit associated with the sensor. Once the object moves away from the path of the light beam, the closed circuit will open again.

The SF4-AH16 also includes internal circuitry for added convenience which converts the analog signal to a digital signal. This signal is sent to an integrated circuit processor which will differentiate between low and high states and turn on or off the associated circuit. The device works on a 3-24V DC supply and the output signals can be used to drive opto-couplers, relays and logic circuits. The device is also able to detect objects between 0.15m-s and 0.3m-s enabling it to be used in a variety of automated applications.
