SFD66S35K491B Application Field and Working Principle

The SFD66S35K491B is a polyester film capacitor designed for DC-link, DC-link filtering, and rectification applications. It offers an excellent combination of reactive, capacitive and electrical properties necessary for operation in high-frequency power control circuits. The device provides an increased level of reliability compared to traditional film capacitor technology by utilizing a high-temperature sintered-ceramic monolithic material construction for better insulation and over-voltage protection.

The SFD66S35K491B is based on a construction that consists of two metal back plates, electro-coated on both sides, between which a polyester film is wound in a series configuration. The back plates act as two inter-leaved capacitors, with one plate serving as a ground (or reference) and the other acting as a voltage-holding plate. The capacitance of the device is determined by the applied voltage, the size of the back plate area, the thickness of the film, and the distance between the two plates. When exposed to a voltage, the area of the film between the back plates is charged, creating a capacitive effect.

The electric field generated by the applied voltage causes the film to experience a variety of physical effects, including tension and bending, which can sometimes result in buckling or wrinkle formation. In order to prevent deformation of the film and maximize reliability, the SFD66S35K491B includes a high-temperature sintered-ceramic monolithic material over the plates.
