Optoisolators, also known as optocouplers, are used for isolating an electrical signal from a microcontroller or other circuitry and controlling electric and electronic devices. They are commonly used for noise reduction, isolating signals from ground loops and providing communications between integrated circuits that must be kept isolated. SFH615AGR-X007T, belonging to the Transistor, Photovoltaic Output optoirsolator family, is a six-pin optoisolator with a high-efficiency infrared emitter LD and a fast and high-sensitivity phototransistor in one package.
SFH615AGR-X007T’s application field is in a broad range. It is used in automotive applications as in-car networking to transfer data between different ECU (electronic control units), isolated amplifier circuits, input/output control systems, telecommunication networking, industrial control systems, motor drive circuits and batteries management.
The working principle of SFH615AGR-X007T is based on the optocoupling effect, an effect that allows the electrical and the optical isolation. A light-emitting diode is on one side of the chip and a sensor on the other. The base of the light-emitting diode is connected to the input, i.e to the external voltage. Then, when an external voltage is applied to the chip, a light pulse is emitted which is detected by the sensor, which in turn creates an output.
