Optoisolators - Logic Output
SFH6700 application field and working principle
SFH6700 is a logic-output optocoupler produced by Infineon, a leader in the semiconductor industry, designed for high-speed logic isolation. The SFH6700 optocoupler contains a light-emitting diode (LED) driving an integrated photodetector for fast, logic-level communications. The optocoupler features galvanic isolation for secure system operation, low power consumption, and is offered in a 6-pin single-in-line package (SIP). This makes the SFH6700 one of the best solutions for isolated parallel connections.
The SFH6700 optocoupler has a wide range of application fields. It can be used in isolation and transmission of both digital and analog signals, which are found in applications such as power supplies, telecom systems, and data converters. Additionally, SFH6700 can be used for isolating and driving logic levels, isolating power levels and isolating motor and dynamic signals in harsh environments.
The basic principle of the SFH6700 optocoupler is the transfer of information across a physical isolation barrier. It is designed to allow a digital signal to travel across a optically-coupled barrier, while ensuring electrical isolation between two circuits. The device consists of both an input and output section, connected together via an optically-coupled system.
The SFH6700 optocoupler operates with a light-emitting diode (LED) connected to the input side via an internal current amplifier, and an integrated photodetector (phototransistor) connected to the output side. The input power is supplied to the LED, which in turn generates a current and produces a light output, which is detected by the internal photodetector. The input current drives the LED to a saturation voltage, on which the output current limits. The current output is proportional to the light output from the LED, which is controlled by the current through the LED. Depending on the current, the photodetector will turn the output on/off, and therefore the optocoupler will switch its state.
To summarize, SFH6700 is a high-speed logic optocoupler designed with a light-emitting diode (LED) and an integrated photodetector, used for isolation between two circuits. The LED is driven by an internal current amplifier, and the output is regulated by the photodetector, which is proportional to the LED current. SFH6700 is available in a 6-pin SIP package, providing a compact solution for high-speed logic isolation applications.
