DC DC Converters

DC-DC converters are electronic devices used to transfer direct current (DC) electric power from one source to another, usually a higher or lower voltages level. They are electrically connected between the DC sources and loads to provide a regulated voltage. The conversion process occurs within the DC-DC converters either by switching or linear mode of operation.

One of the most efficient and reliable DC-DC converters is SFS304810B. This converter utilizes an advanced, high-efficiency switch-mode design with features that guarantee reliable operation in harsh environments. It can also provide power factor corrections, input current regulation, isolation, EMI attenuation, voltage and current monitoring, protection against short-circuits and over-temperature, among others features.

The application area of the SFS304810B is mainly used in DC/DC power supplies, in critical applications, such as industrial, automotive, telecommunications, networking and server applications. It can be used in many application needing a reliable and high-performance DC/DC power supply, such as voltage regulation, drive systems, static drives, or high-voltage, high-power flyback converters.

The working principle of SFS304810B is based on the operating principle of an LC oscillating circuit, where the basic element of this type of converter is an inductor and capacitor connected in series to form a tunnel-diode flip-flop circuit. The inductor is a ferromagnetic core and is used as a storage element for energy. The capacitor is an electrical component used to store an electrical charge, and it is also used to provide the set of resonance frequencies for the converter. The DC input voltage is applied to the converter circuit, which causes current to flow through the inductor. The magnetic field produced by the current then induces a voltage in the inductor which generates a voltage across the capacitor. This voltage will be the same as the input voltage, but with a slightly higher frequency. This increased voltage passes through the transformer, which steps up or down the voltage, and then exits the converter as the output voltage.
