This means that at higher voltage levels, the current will be limited substantially, while at lower levels, the current will remain constant.The SG313 is designed to provide maximum surge protection up to 700V AC (or 180V DC). In its basic form, the SG313 consists of a non-linear thermistor encapsulated in a hermetically sealed ceramic package. This package also contains a metal oxide varistor, a diode, and other components.When the device is connected to the power source, current starts to flow through the thermistor, which then starts to heat up. This causes the thermistor to get hotter, and thus its resistance dramatically reduces. This reduction in resistance reduces the current flow through the device, thus limiting the inrush current.When the voltage drops below a certain level, the thermistor then starts to cool down, and its resistance increases again.
