RF receivers are specialized electronic devices that enable the reception of communication signals. The SI2124-A20-GM is an integrated receiver meant for applications that require wideband reception from multiple frequency bands in the range of 8 GHz to 18 GHz. The main components of the receiver are a low noise Amplifier (LNA), Power Amplifier (PA), Digital Controlled Gain and Frequency Select (DCFI) and receiver data multiplexer circuit. The amplifier is constructed in a die form to enable increased linearity and stability in the amplifier output. The PA has a programmable gain setting in the range of +20 to +60 dB. The DCFI has a programmable frequency selection ability wherein the desired frequency can be set at the beginning of the range or midway through the range. The data multiplexer circuit facilitates the connection of multiple digital data sources to the receiver data streaming port.
The working principle of the SI2124-A20-GM is as follows. When a signal is received, it is first amplified by the LNA. The signal is then further amplified by the PA prior to being routed to the DCFI. This allows for the signal to be tuned to the desired frequency. The DCFI is responsible for selecting the desired frequency and the power amplification. The signal is then decoded by the data multiplexer circuit before being sent to the receiver data streaming port.
