The SI3220-BQ is an integrated circuit (IC) is a multi-chip module (MCM) that is used for fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) applications. It is specifically designed for applications involving very high data rates such as broadband, multimode, and long haul gigabit Ethernet networks. The IC functions by providing a physical layer interface between optical fibers and electrical circuits. It provides data rate conversion from high speed data to lower speed electrical signals, as well as from lower speed electrical signals to higher speed data. Furthermore, it can also serve for error correction in transmission, such as for burst error correction, and for adaptations of data rates during transmission. The SI3220-BQ consists of a transmitter (Tx) and a receiver (Rx). It has an on-board logic that controls transceivers in order to produce a physical layer interface between the optical fibers and the electrical circuitry of the system. The on-board logic engages in the monitoring and control of clock synchronization, error correction and signal equalization.This IC utilizes a shared buffer dual transceiver architecture.
