The SI53115-A01AGMR is a high-performance active redundancy primary oscillator from SiTime Corporation. This technology allows designers to quickly and easily implement active redundancy on the primary clock in their timing design. The SI53115-A01AGMR is designed to meet the demands of various system applications such as point-of-sale (POS) systems, electronic banking systems, data centers, and gaming machines.

The SI53115-A01AGMR is based on SiTime’s advanced MEMS-based technology. This specific MEMS oscillator uses a specialized SiTime MEMS oscillator cell that achieves robust performance with sophisticated control systems that integrate oscillator design, compensation, calibration, and manufacturing control techniques. The device also features an on-chip programmable logic circuit that can monitor the oscillator’s performance, switch between redundant oscillators, or initiate a controlled switchover.

In operation, the primary and secondary oscillators can be connected in parallel or in series, with the secondary oscillator actively monitoring the output of the primary. The switchover between oscillators is initiated by the on-chip logic circuitry when an oscillator fails or when the peak-to-peak jitter or the center frequency exceeds predetermined levels. This logic circuit can also be used to detect failure of external components in a system and initiate a switch to the secondary. The switching threshold is programmable by the user, allowing for a range of tolerance levels.
