Application Field
The SI9120DJ-E3 is designed for portable LED lamp, off-line LED driver, LED dimmer, and LED bulb applications, to drive LEDs in constant-current and power efficient way. It features Dimming Signals (Gen. 2, DCMB-1, DCRC, i2C) and High Efficiency that make it well suited to the needs of LED or OLED lighting. It accepts a wide input voltage range (85VAC-265VAC) which eliminates the need of external components like fuses and MOVs or snubber circuits.
Working Principle
The chip features a voltage feedback topology (VFB) based on peak current-mode control with two feedback pins (FB1 and FB2) for the voltage loop and voltage-compensation loop. A 200mV voltage differential is created between the voltage at FB1 and FB2 pins. The chip contains an internal 500mV reference. The FB1/FB2 voltage differential is compared to the internal reference voltage to regulate the drive to the optics via the PWM cycle. The internal constant-current reference is determined by the EN/DIM pin and can be programmed between 10mV and 100mV.
The SI9120DJ-E3 provides very low quiescent current in Burst Mode operation, one of the many features that make it an attractive choice for cost-sensitive, space-constrained applications. The electronic dimming can be utilised for optimized light output, improved dimming range and greater system efficiency.
The SI9120DJ-E3 also provides a cycle-by-cycle current limit feature as a protective function. If an over-current event occurs, the switch will be turned off until the current returns to a safe level. The device also has short-circuit protection, which will detect a short circuit condition and prevent it from damaging the IC.
