Programmable oscillators are electronic components whose frequency can be programmed thereby allowing different frequencies to be generated from the same oscillator. A programmable oscillator requires external components in order to adjust its frequency. Examples of such external components include capacitators and resistors. The SIT8008AIE1-28S is a programmable oscillator specifically designed for the needs of Fixed-Wing Aircraft and Rotary-Wing Aircraft applications. This Programmable Oscillator utilizes a wide frequency range of 0.5MHz to 4.0GHz. The SIT8008AIE1-28S consists of a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), digital-frequency control (DFC), and noise control oscillator (NCO).

The internal DFC has two frequency-control inputs: a voltage-controlled input for coarse-tuning and a logic input for fine-tuning. The DFC employs a phase-locked-loop (PLL) architecture for optimum performance. The phase-locked-loop effectively generates a steady clock signal from a reference frequency and keeps the clock frequency in sync with the reference frequency by compensating for any frequency changes. This allows the oscillator frequency to be locked to a clock frequency at any given time.

The SIT8008AIE1-28S also features a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) which controls the oscillator frequency by adjusting the frequency in response to an applied voltage. The VCO can be programmed to output a wide range of frequencies and can be used to generate frequency modulated (FM) signals. The VCO can be adjusted to output different frequencies using various external components such as capacitors and resistors.

The NCO is a noise control oscillator module which is used to control the output noise present in the oscillator’s output signal. This noise control module is designed to reduce the level of unwanted noise present in the oscillator’s output signal. The NCO also has the ability to control the phase noise in the output signal.

The SIT8008AIE1-28S is an ideal choice for commercial and military applications where reliable frequency control is needed.
