Working Principle

The SIT8008BIT7-18E programmable oscillator is an integrated component that combines both an oscillator and controller in one package. An external crystal is used to set the desired frequency range, while an analog voltage control and a single-wire digital interface are used to program the frequency and output characteristics of the oscillator.The oscillator uses a Pierce oscillator based on a bipolar junction transistor (BJT) to generate the output signal. The BJT is modulated by current, which is supplied by the voltage-controlled current source. The voltage-controlled current source is controlled by an analog voltage whose range is specified within the datasheet. This voltage can be programmed externally to change the frequency of the output signal.Additionally, the oscillator has an on-chip programmable divider which is connected to the controller. The divider can be programmed externally to divide the output frequency of the oscillator.
