The SKY73420-EK1 is a RF evaluation and development kit from Skyworks Solutions, Inc that allows performance testing and design optimization for RF systems. The kit is comprised of two parts – a USB control board and an evaluation board.

The USB board is used to enable a PC/MAC for communication with the evaluation board and contains two web based applications, the Serial Interface Board (SIB) and the RF Wizard. This capture is captured into an internal RAM buffer and can be accessed remotely using the SIB application. Additionally, the board features a full signal chain with a wide range of frequency coverage between 1 and 5 GHz. On board components include an on-board 2W power amplifier, RF switch, band pass SAW and low noise amplifiers. All of these components are incorporated with an integrated RF test socket and a bias tee for biasing the device under test.

The SKY73420-EK1 operates in a two-stage operation. In the first stage, the USB board receives the register data from the evaluation board and passes it on to the PC/MAC. At this point, the user can modify the setting of the device by using the built-in GUI controls of the RF Wizard and SIB applications. Once the required parameters are set, the USB board initiates the second stage of the operation, which is the device testing. During this stage, the evaluation board performs a series of tests, such as frequency response, gain, linearity, and input/output safety on the device under test. The results of these tests are then passed back to the PC/MAC for further analysis.
