The working principle of the SL1021B600RF GDT is based on the phenomenon that, in high electrical fields, a conductive gas between closely spaced electrodes will become ionized and break down, forming an electrical arc. When a transient surge of electrical energy is applied to the electrodes, the gas ionizes, resulting in an arc which breaks down and dampens the surge. This ‘arcing’ action dissipates the energy applied to the arrester, and thereby shields the main telecom system from transient surges.The SL1021B600RF GDT arrester uses a combination of a conductive gas, an ionized medium, and a voltage spark gap to protect the telecom system from transients.
