The SL11R-DK is based on the Atmel AVR® ATmega168 microcontroller, providing 32KB flash, 2KB SRAM and 256 bytes EEPROM. It provides a comprehensive development environment with the ATmega168 development board and debugger, a large prototyping board, a set of USB cables, an Atmel AVR programmer, an Atmel Studio debugger and an evaluation board for the microcontroller and its various components and functions.

Apart from its core features, the SL11R-DK is equipped with a panoply of interfaces and peripherals, ranging from an On-Board Temperature Sensor to Step Motor Control, Wireless Communication, zigbee interface and two SPI Busses. It is powered by a 4-pin 2.2V to 3.3V power supply and has a variety of on-board sockets, including Micro-USB, UART, A/D, VGA, Ethernet, I2C, CAN, USB Host and STT. All peripherals are also supported by the Atmel AVR ATmega168 microcontroller.

The SL11R-DK also includes a stand alone Reset/Time Out Timer. This is ideal for developing systems with long setup delays. In addition, the board also includes a hardware timer that can be programmed for periodic or one-time tasks or used to count and store states, etc. Also included is a 10KHz oscillator, which makes the board ideal for frequency control and periodic operations. The working principle of the SL11R-DK is based on three main stages; the initialization stage, the main loop stage and the final timing stage. In the initialization stage, the microcontroller receives inputs from all the components connected to it and loads the appropriate data and instructions into the processor’s internal memory. These inputs can include data from any type of external memory or serial communication port, as well as data from any analog or digital input. In the main loop, the microcontroller carries out the instructions to control the various peripherals connected to it. The final timing stage allows the microcontroller to keep a consistent working clock and perform a wide variety of regular or periodic tasks.

Its wide range of peripherals makes it ideal for applications such as industrial control, robotics, medical instrumentation, test and measurement, automotive and security systems, as well as any number of consumer products.
