Introduction to Inrush Current Limiters (ICLs)

An Inrush Current Limiter (ICL) is an electrical device or circuit that limits the amount of inrush current to electronic components or circuits. Inrush current is defined as the instantaneous, large current that is drawn by an electrical component or electric motor when power is first applied, and it is a critical factor in the successful operation of most electrical products. An ICL is generally designed for a particular application and is used to limit current while still allowing the component or circuit to draw the current it needs for operation.
