The SL2305ZC-1 from SiTime is an oscillator, voltage-controlled clock generator (VCXO) featuring low jitter performance and a wide range operating temperature. The device has a frequency range of 8.000 to 160.000 MHz, and offers an output frequency resolution of 1.000 MHz. Moreover, the SL2305ZC-1 is offered in a miniature 2x2mm package and it is compliant to the RoHS directives.

The SL2305ZC-1 is especially suitable for general-purpose frequency synthesizers, networking and communications systems, computing, medical, and automotive applications. It is designed with a programmable crystal load and a configurable PLL. The SL2305ZC-1 can be used as both a low-jitter clock synthesis engine or a frequency modulated reference oscillator. It provides the lowest jitter and flexibility of the SiTime family of wide range oscillators and frequency synthesizers.

The programmable crystal load of the SL2305ZC-1 allows it to operate from different quartz crystal resonator oscillators having the same specifications, such as frequency and load capacitance. This enables designers to control and tune their designs to the frequency validity gap of quartz crystal resonator oscillators. This helps reduce the number of events due to environmental factors, such as temperature and aging, on the crystal oscillator frequency accuracy beyond the external tolerances.

The PLL of the SL2305ZC-1 combines a voltage-controlled, programmable crystal oscillator (VCXO) and a digital phase-locked loop (PLL). This allows it to accurately track and reduce jitter across applications requiring frequencies that are multiples of the VCXO signal. The PLL also supports a wide frequency range, from 8.000 to 160.000 MHz.

The SL2305ZC-1 is additionally configured by an onboard control register that can be programmed via either an I²C or SYSFS serial I/O interface. This enables designers to customize their system\'s clocks with the goal of achieving the highest-accuracy performance and jitter reduction. Moreover, it provides 12 Selectable Frequency Outputs (SFO), which is based on the High-Order Multiplication of frequencies.

The SL2305ZC-1 can achieve both a low-jitter and low-phase-noise performance. Its PLL synthesizer provides minimized jitter due to fast-lock times and its frequency spread spectrum modulation provides improved jitter performance. The device also has a max-pitched frequency of 24MHz, and a phase-noise of -150dBc/Hz at 12KHz, and -170dBc/Hz at 100KHz.
