It is located on the top side of the package and is connected to the positive input of the control FET by a 20KΩ precision trim pot. The FET’s gate is cascade-connected to the thermistor, so that the thermistor’s resistance is used to control the FET’s gate voltage. The FET’s source is connected to ground and its drain is connected to the output of the package. When the external surrounding temperature changes, the thermistor’s resistance changes, which in turn changes the FET’s gate voltage and thus its drain-to-source current. This then changes the output voltage of the package. The output voltage of the package is then compared to an internal set point to determine whether to activate a secondary thermistor-based thermal switch.
