SMA6F10A-M3/6B Application Field and Working Principle
TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors), more commonly known as protection / surge diodes are used in a number of different application fields. In most cases their purpose are to protect the circuits from damaging effects of transient voltages.
The SMA6F10A-M3/6B is a medium power protection diode with a breakdown voltage of 10 Volts and a clamping voltage of 18 Volt. The maximum pulse energy is typically 400 W and the diode\'s current capability is 6.0 Amps.
The SMA6F10A-M3/6B has an excellent protection capability with up to 6W of continuous power dissipation in the circuit. The diode also features excellent thermal performance with a maximum operating temperature of 185 °C.
The working principle of TVS diode is based on the concept of load balancing. This principle states that when energy is applied to a given circuit, it will act to dissipate the excess energy in the form of heat, thus protecting the circuit from voltage spikes.
