TVS or transient voltage suppressors are a wide category of suppression devices. The SMCJ13CA-TP also belongs to this family of suppression devices. It is designed to protect electronic components against voltage transience, or transient voltage, which often take effect during power surges, switch-on or off-events, electromagnetic radiation, or ripple current.

The SMCJ13CA-TP has optimized LCD display protection and adjustable clamping level to provide optimal performance. The working principle behind the SMCJ13CA-TP features two mechanism for protection, namely “Thermal Breakdown” and “avalanche breakdown”. Thermal Breskdown is the process in which a sudden rise in temperature of the device leads to the opening of the device, thus preventing current or voltage to flow further. In “avalanche breakdown”, when the reverse mounting voltage reaches a certain level, the current starts, because electric charges start to do multiple collisions. This impact of collisions breaks the intrinsic electric field of the depletion layer and allows the leakage current to increase exponentially.

The SMCJ13CA-TP is typically used as a Interface protection for microUSB, LCD, HDMI, 3.5mm audio jack and other similar ports, as well as for protection against Human body model (HBM) and machine model (MM) Electrostatic discharges found in a wide variety of electronic systems and components.

Apart from electrostatic dischargees (ESD) protection, SMCJ13CA-TP is also used to protect against voltage transiency due to its low power leakage current, low clamping voltage, and good temperature stability, so as to ensure proper operation in the environment in which it is used. It is also used to prevent component damage caused by lightning and, thus, is a great all-around protection device.

The SMCJ13CA-TP is a reliable TVS diode, which offers a good level of protection for electronic devices, components and systems from transient voltage surges. It is tested to meet the international standards ISO7637-2, ISO10605 and SAEJ1113. Moreover, this product is RoHS compliant.
