The SMCJ13CA TVS diode is one such device that is designed for providing over-voltage protection for high-speed data lines in automotive and industrial applications.
The SMCJ13CA TVS diode is a uni-polar device with a breakdown voltage of 13V and a stand-off voltage of 11.1V. It is a bidirectional device and is designed to protect the positive and negative lines of an electronic circuit from over-voltage and short transients. It has an excellent clamping capability and low clamping voltage that can handle dynamic transients of up to 22.4A at 8/20 μsec and 40A peak pulse current. The maximum power dissipation rating of the SMCJ13CA diode is 500mW with a high storage and operating junction temperature of +175°C.
The SMCJ13CA diode is widely used for supplying high-speed data lines protection in automotive and industrial applications. It is widely used in automotive in-vehicle network systems, including CAN-Bus, K-Bus, LIN-Bus, SCSI and Ethernet. It is also used in industrial applications for data line protection, such as in Ethernet, Serial ATA and SCSI systems. It can also be used in telecom systems and consumer electronics equipment like laptops, monitors, routers and televisions.
The working principle of the SMCJ13CA TVS diode is based on the avalanche breakdown effect. When an over-voltage or transient voltage, greater than the breakdown voltage of the diode, is applied to its anode and cathode terminals, the depletion layer is widened and it creates a high electric field. This electric field accelerates the electrons and holes and they collide with the immobilized electrons and generate a huge amount of carriers which then results in an avalanche breakdown triggering the flow of current through the diode. This current flow is limited by the device\'s reverse current capability and ensures that the voltage transient is clamped to the breakdown voltage of the diode.
The SMCJ13CA TVS diode is a reliable and efficient device for protecting high-speed data lines in automotive and industrial applications.
