Applications of SMCJ350A

It is commonly used for EMI/RFI protection, data line surge protection, and shunt regulation, and is suitable for use with connectors and I/O ports. Furthermore, it is suitable for use with high power RF applications, as it can withstand high energy surge transients up to 1500W.
Working Principle of SMCJ350A
The SMCJ350A is a unidirectional diode, meaning that current flows only in one direction. When a transient voltage is detected, the diode\'s junction reacts by reaching a breakdown voltage, causing its impedance to drop from a high resistance level to a low resistance level. The diode then absorbs the energy from the surge and diverts it to ground, thus protecting the device it is connected to from any damage.
When the transient voltage has dissipated, the diode will reset itself to its normal forward voltage level, ready to act again as soon as the next transient voltage appears. The SMCJ350A is designed to be especially effective against high-energy overvoltage pulses which have a fast rise time, such as those caused by lightning strikes or power surges.
